06/28/2010 - Toronto, ON (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Ottawa's Jonathan Cheechoo is one of several players reportedly placed on waivers Monday.
According to TSN.ca, the former Rocket Richard Trophy winner as the league's leading goal-scorer is expected to be bought out of his contract by the Senators if he goes unclaimed.
Cheechoo, acquired in the trade that sent Dany Heatley to San Jose, is due $3.5 million in the final year of his contract. He slumped to a career-low five goals in 61 games last season while totaling 14 points.
The report also indicates that Calgary forward Ales Kotalik was also placed on waivers. He tallied a combined 11 goals and 16 assists for the New York Rangers and Flames last season. Kotalik is due $6 million over the next two years.
Florida defenseman Ville Koistinen and Phoenix blueliner Jim Vandermeer along with teammate Petteri Nokelainen, a forward, were also reportedly placed on waivers by their respective teams and face the prospect of being bought out of their contracts.
